These 34x26mm blue and white cameos have a flat back for mounting. They can be used in a setting mount to create a brooch, ring, cuff links or centerpiece; use them with a seed bead stitched bezel, wrap them with wire or set them into polymer clay. Cabochons are not beads, and do not have holes. Made in Western Germany these vintage cameos are not a standard size. If you want to use a metal jewellery frame to "mount" it then fill in the gap with chain.
Use an epoxy glue e.g Araldite to set the stones. Alternatively set into a polymer clay e.g., Fimo
Cameo is a method of carving, features a raised (positive) relief image; contrast with intaglio, which has a negative image. Cameos can be produced by setting a carved relief, such as a portrait, onto a background of a contrasting colour like these stones. This is called an assembled cameo.
Hand carved cameos were popular in the Renaissance, Victorian era and 1970s often depicting Greek Goddesses and Greek Gods as well as universal mythological themes of of love, loss, deception and magic. Originating from the Roma era they were made from stones or shell. Since that time they have come in out of favour dependent on jewellery trends.
