These original 1920s celluloid cream scarab beetles do not have holes or a flat surface so are difficult to categorise. Celluloid was developed in the late 1800s.
Cicadas are a symbol of rebirth and transformation used extensively in Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt. These would have been made on the 1920s for Art Deco Egyptian Revival jewellery. Unlike a butterfly, moth, or other insects that undergo complete metamorphosis, cicadas have no pupal state.
