Rudraksha seeds are the dried stones of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree. Often referred to as "blueberry beads" due to the blue outer fruit that covers them when ripe,  they are valued similarly to semi-precious stones and are commonly used to create jewellery and malas (garlands). These seed beads are sourced from India.

In Hindu (particularly Shaiva) and Buddhist traditions, they are used as prayer beads. Believers wear them for protection and use them when chanting mantras, such as Om Namah Shivaya. Additionally, the seeds feature distinct ridges known as "faces" (mukha), and the number of faces on a seed is often associated with a specific deity.
